(OA)4-2 & 3 Revisit Digital Painting Explorations and Lesson Plan Ideas

When I look back the process of my digital painting, it was more like the process of automatic drawing as I was not planning what to make in the beginning but just let it started. And when I saw others, it has more variety to explore. Next time, I might be clear with my attitude at the beginning to see how it leads me. For example, going for automatic drawings (but with more awareness of it), collecting images in advance to play with, thinking about certain themes or concepts, make some rules for myself what I can do and what I cannot do, working with moving version of digital painting (as Ava and Nina did, and Carrianna suggested) etc.

Lesson Plan Ideas

There are so many options to start with, so I think it is essential to set what would be the beginning point unless the goal of the class is exploring what one wants to do with digital tools.

My lesson of digital painting is inspired by the fact that the digital painting can be easily copied, reproduced and retouched. Also "History" function let us see the process more easily.

1. Starting with images
All students start with one image and see how they come up with different ways of manipulating and creating the outcome.

2. Swap the painting
After certain exploration, students can swap their works and start working on other's outcome. One good thing about digital painting is it can be easily copied and reproduced (or undo) so even another student transforms your drawing awful, it won't hurt.

3. Step 2 continued(depends on the numbers of students or time allocated)
Painting can be swapped so students can see and track its changes.

Expectation: To explore how each student works differently to the same image, how each reacts to others paintings, what the transformation of one image would through the process, and how this process would make students think about working individually and collaboratively in digital painting.
