(OA)4-1 Revisit Homework and Comment

I made comments on

1. Teny's [HW 3-4] Social Media Artist Miltos Manetas
Teny, thank you for sharing this! I really enjoyed reading the manifesto which I think fascinating that it is even written in late 1990s. It is challenging to me to play video games as I am not good at understanding its scheme or structure, and it causes stress which is the opposite to the intention of many games. Have you played a game called "Journey"? It more focuses on enjoying the moments of looking at beautiful scenes rather than killing monsters to go to next stages. I think there are more of this kind of games today, which changes how we see and experience games, as Miltos experimented almost twenty years ago.

2. Hannah's HW3.4.2 Social Media Artist Research: Brian Piana
Hi Hannah, Thank you for introducing this artist. I like the fact that he produced the program and let the contents filled from the social media sources. I think recent phenomenon of art engaging to technology tends to provide a system with few conditions (in this case, twitter and the word "me") but left contents open. It is a shift on how we make things (one creator and several audiences to several creators-audiences), and how we try to be collaborative.

3.  Gina's HW 2.2 On/Off Experiment

Hi Gina, it is nice to revisit your project after sharing it in the class. When I think about why I need technology is because other people have it and I cannot participate if I don't have it. In this sense, having technology is another way of being in community today. In other words, if others do not have technology, I also do not need it? By the way, I want to comment on your experience being without technology for two years. When I was traveling to Africa, Mongolia or some other countries where the Internet connections were not yet established, I remember myself more focusing on observing my surroundings. I had more time to look at inside of mine and outside world, and spend more time with people for sure (maybe it’s because I was traveling though), which I very enjoyed. I appreciate your imagining moment how our daily lives would be like (not in a special circumstance like traveling) without technology.

4. Anita's HW 3/3 Research Artist: Jorge Colombo
Anita, thank you for sharing your curiosity and thought on how digital painting will evolve and how to be seen. That's very interesting matter to think. How digital painting can be integrated into the traditional art world or art market? Or would it be segregated and shapes its own?

5. Casey's Homework 3-4: Social Media Artist (Tim Manley)
Hi Casey, his works are pleasurable to see! using social media as a space where to support loving ones and encourage oneself is a such a sweet movement. it makes me think about how we can use social media differently. It is also interesting how he interpreted Cinderella into contemporary media version. thank you for sharing!

6. Ava's Erol Gunduz 3/4
It is interesting to see how Erol is playing with real and virtual site. The 3D printed characters have been never placed in that place for real but made documentation and images are posted and archived on social media platform. This stimulates to think about what would be real and what is the reality we are taking into. thank you for sharing!

7. Nina's 3.4 The Artist Is Kinda Present | An Xiao
Hi Nina, it's interesting how the artist has converted the conditions of being present. it reminds me of some situations that I text someone right next me rather than talking directly. communicating through technology has certain values and different ways of communicating (for example I can use emoji through text which I cannot express in real conversation, etc). Being physical does not mean that the people is really on to communication either so it's good to text to see if that person in the mood of communication. As Douglas pointed out that computers operate decision to decision, choice to choice rather than in time, we might be comforted by this new ways of communication through technology?

It was nice to see what other people in the class has researched, experienced, thought and made. Also exploring others' thoughts, I could find what triggers me more and different ways, which makes me realize again what learning from others mean.
