(HW)3-3 Artist(s) Working on Digital Painting/Drawing

  Yung Jake is using emoji to create figures of pop culture, mostly celebrities. His usage of emoji is a direct demonstration of visual inputs through daily internet experiences and communication. He uses digital tools and digital platforms extensively to create and show his works.

  1. These are so funny. I love that they are internet meme photographs but collaged from emojis. I don't think it can get more "internet" than that. I thought the images were of food at first until I looked closely. We use emojis often instead of words to describe something. Do the emojis represent the photos at all?

  2. Wow! What a great find! I love the idea of using new communication technology—emojis—to recreate older communication technology—portraiture. There's also quite a nice surprise with the way the emojis are used. It creates almost a textured quality, and reminds me a lot of embroidery. I'm very fond of the idea of using something colloquial to create something beautiful, and Yung Jake certainly does!
